Brock Dolman co-founded (in 1994) the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center where he co-directs the WATER Institute. A wildlife biologist and watershed ecologist, he has been actively promoting “Bringing Back Beaver in California” since the early 2000s. He was given the Salmonid Restoration Federation’s coveted Golden Pipe Award in 2012: “…for his leading role as a proponent of “working with beavers” to restore native habitat.

Stamets plays a significant part in the 2019 documentary film Fantastic Fungi, and edited the film’s official companion book, Fantastic Fungi: Expanding Consciousness, Alternative Healing, Environmental Impact.
The character Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets on the CBS series Star Trek: Discovery was named after the real Stamets. The fictional version is an astromycologist and engineer aboard the USS Discovery, and is credited with discovering how to navigate a mycelial network in space using a “spore drive.”

Caroline hosts Kristin Ohlson, whose most recent invaluable book is Sweet in Tooth and Claw: Stories of Generosity and Cooperation in the Natural World – Full Moon Waxing, that humans be inspired by such to rejoin the collaborative dance. Quoting Darwin’s contemporary, the Russian scientist-anarchist Peter Kropotkin: “Who are the fittest: those who are continually at war with each other, or those who support one another? We at once see that those animals which acquire habits of mutual aid are undoubtedly the fittest.”
Kristin Ohlson is a writer living in Portland, Oregon. Her newest book is Sweet in Tooth and Claw: Stories of Generosity and Cooperation in the Natural World. Her last book was The Soil Will Save Us: How Scientists, Farmers and Foodies are Healing the Soil to Save the Planet, which the Los Angeles Times calls “a hopeful book and a necessary one…. a fast-paced and entertaining shot across the bow of mainstream thinking about land use.” She appears in the award-winning documentary film, Kiss the Ground, speaking about the connection between soil and climate health.

Dan Flores is an American writer and historian who specializes in cultural and environmental studies of the American West. A native of Louisiana, Dan Flores is a writer who presently lives in the Galisteo Valley outside Santa Fe, New Mexico, and is A. B. Hammond Professor Emeritus of the History of the American West at the University of Montana-Missoula. He is the author of ten books, most recently the New York Times Bestseller, “Coyote America: A Natural and Supernatural History” (2016), and “American Serengeti: The Last Big Animals of the Great Plains” (2016). Dan Flores is an ambassador for Project Coyote, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote compassionate conservation and coexistence between people and wildlife through education, science and advocacy.
